If a wedding full of fall colors, family memories, and lots of love is your cup of tea, then this beautiful Virginia October Wedding won't disappoint!Read More
This session was everything I could have hoped for; Robbie and Bethany were absolutely perfect together! They were complete naturals in front of the camera and they laughed and played together- creating some beautiful genuine moments for me to capture for them.
We shot all over downtown Fredericksburg and I am so glad we did; I love the specific look each location gave to their images. We ended in a beautiful field just as the sun set, and it was absolutely perfect.
I had such a hard time narrowing the images down for the blog but here are just some of my favorites!
Meet Melissa and Harrison! I had the pleasure of capturing this beautiful couple's engagement session in downtown Richmond at Libby Hill Park. I didn't know this sweet couple before meeting them on location for their session and I was blown away by how sweet and in love these two are!
We debated on a few different locations and I am so happy we decided on Libby Hill Park. The scenery was breath-taking, complete with cobblestone pathways and views overlooking the James River and downtown Richmond!
The best part? The weather was calling for rain all day! In fact, I drove through a down pour to get to the session! Luckily the rain had stopped and we had a beautiful slightly overcast sky...until the end of the session when the sun came out and made a full appearance just in time to capture some beautiful sun drenched images during golden hour!
Here are a few of my favorites from this beautiful downtown Richmond engagement session!
This past month I announced my first ever STP Senior Representative Program and I am so lucky to have three beautiful seniors to represent STP for the upcoming year! I wanted to make sure we kicked the program off right and what better way to do that than a gorgeous styled shoot?!
I knew I wanted the styled shoot to reflect me and my brand, but most of all, show off three very special ladies. I decided on a "pastel dessert" theme and I couldn't have been happier! It's no secret that I love my desserts... but mix that with beautiful neutrals, blush tones, soft blues and greens, and sprinkle it with gold and I was over the moon!
The session took place on the grounds of the beautiful Woodland Manor (Located in Dunnsville, Virginia; just a few miles outside of Tappahannock, Virginia). This historic manor is nestled among beautiful Sycamore and Magnolia trees and creates a beautiful atmosphere for both weddings and events! The manor consists of everything from a banquet room to a formal dining room and even a full English basement (otherwise known as "Pub 17"). The owners welcomed us into the manor with open arms and opened up the bridal suite for the girls to get ready in! The girls snacked on fresh fruits, chocolates and sparkling waters while having hair and makeup done (by Sharon Buchner).
Fresh flowers were provided by King William Florist, a team of sisters located just twenty miles east of Richmond and known for creating beautiful wedding florals. Their centerpiece just made the entire shoot come together and I was in love! They put together a beautiful selection of neutral and blush toned flowers (including my all time favorite...peonies!) and nestled them into a golden vase which brought the whole table to life! They even added some fresh flowers to top the cake- the perfect detail!
Upon arriving to the session, there were some fresh flowers left from an event held just a few nights prior (the owner of Woodland Manor happens to have a daughter who is a florist located in Mechanicsville, Virginia; Black Creek Flowers and Sweets). The flowers were already arranged into beautiful tea pots matching our theme perfectly (what are the odds?). We added them to the table, and we had a table full of beautiful flowers!
My passion for food isn't a secret. In fact, I first started in photography doing food photography- which is still a passion of mine! I knew my styled shoot needed to have a "food" theme. Mix that with the hard core sweet tooth I have, and I knew using desserts was a must!
I have a lot of favorites when it comes to desserts, but I am not sure if there is anything I love more than fresh macarons. If you have never been to Whisk before, I am going to need you to stop what you're doing and go right now. Like, right now. This bakery is located on E. Main Street in Richmond Virginia and I adore it. Whisk provided the macarons used for the session and I sent my husband (the faithful errand boy that he was that day!) to Richmond to pick them up the morning of the shoot. I was trying to send him 'mental vibes' all morning... "please buy macarons while you are there so I can eat them." I kept thinking it all morning, over and over, extra hard-hoping if I thought it hard enough my husband would catch my vibes...and he did! Not only did we have the beautiful macarons for the styled shoot but now I had my own personal stash...that's why I married him! My sister (who lives in Richmond) joined me for the session to help setting up, styling, etc. and once she heard where the macarons were from she lit up and exclaimed Whisk is a favorite place of hers! If a local recommends it, you know it's good! Also, I can report back and let you know that my personal stash was gone by Monday and I have been thinking about them ever since.
I can't think of enough nice things to say about the cookies provided by It's All Sugar 2 Me (check them out on Instagram and Facebook!). Not only did they look great, but they were delicious too! I first reached out to Cari after seeing her work at an event done by another photographer and friend of mine, and I knew I wanted to incorporate these cookies into this session! She was able to duplicate my logo onto the cookies as well as make smaller cookies that said "senior," "2018," and also ones that featured my secondary logo. She used my branding/session colors of blush, gold and dark grey and they were perfect! The girls loved these and we had so much fun with them. Also, I can safely say they were very much kid approved!
The simply beautiful cupcakes came from Michelle's Sweet Treats, a quaint bakery located in the heart of the small town of Warsaw, Va. These vanilla cupcakes were topped with beautiful shades of buttercream frosting and garnished with tiny pearls to complete their look! The girls were eyeing these cupcakes during the whole session and couldn't wait to dive in as soon as we were done shooting! If you're ever in Warsaw, I highly recommend stopping by; you will find lots of goodies which make the perfect treat to take to the park across the street to enjoy (My kids and I can speak from personal experience!).
Of course, I have to show off these three pretty ladies too!
A Mechanicsville Family and Maternity Portrait Session
One of my favorite things about this business is meeting new people but it's even better when you just "click" with your client and their session feels nothing like work! I had so much fun with this beautiful family and I am so honored to have met them and been given the opportunity to work with them!
Turns out that Jen is also a nurse and we work at the same hospital (but on different units)! Not only is Jen working as a nurse but she is also expecting baby number FOUR!!! I had so much fun getting to know this sweet and beautiful family. Their session flew by and we ended up with some amazing images!
Their session took place at Gaines' Mill Battlefield and the sun saturated the sky creating the most gorgeous golden glow in all of their images. It was hard to narrow them down but here are a few of my favorites!
I have known Kate for a long time. In fact, we have a picture of us waiting for the school bus together in matching outfits on the first day of first grade. That's a long time. We grew up together and I consider ourselves more like sisters than friends. I knew her before she met her husband Fielding and I am so beyond happy to know her after Fielding became part of her life. Believe me when I say these two are positively perfect for each other! Their love for each other is obvious and they truly make each other happy.
When I first heard they were engaged (yay!) I knew this wouldn't be a traditional wedding. And sure enough... LAS VEGAS was the destination of choice (double yay!).
They chose a simple ceremony in the desert of Vegas performed by Florapop. The intimate wedding was perfect as they exchanged their own personally written vows in front of a pop up chapel and complete with donuts and champagne (I think this might be my new favorite combination!).
I was honored to be a part of their special day and capture the memories of a life time. I love these two to pieces and I am so happy to share a few of my favorite images from their big day!
I had the pleasure of working with Jessie and her sweet sweet sweet (did I say sweet?) six month old baby girl a couple of weeks ago for a mommy and me session. This sun-drenched session was made complete with flower crowns, a tiny pink dress and lots and lots of love!
Since becoming a mother, nothing makes me happier than pictures of my babies and me together. I was so excited to have this sweet mommy-daughter duo in front of my camera so Jessie could have the same special memories for her and her daughter!
Everything about this session was absolutely perfect and I am so in love with the whole gallery! I had such a hard time narrowing it down to my top favorites to share!
(Hair and makeup done by Sharon Buchner!!!!)
*** I am still booking "Mommy + Me" mini sessions and I have a couple of spots left! if you want to snag your spot before they are gone email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. They make the perfect Mother's Day gift for that special momma! ***
Meet Aaron and Erin. Yes, those are really their names and I love it! You may remember this sweet couple from my blog because I just shot their wedding this past October! This couple has truly been a dream to work with. They are both the kindest and sweetest people and most of all, they are so so so totally and completely in love.
How lucky am I to have them back in front of my camera again for a sweetheart/family session?!? The first question I asked Aaron when I saw him was "How is married life?" His response was "Absolutely amazing" and it truly shows. Posing this couple was a breeze since they are so natural at loving on each other. The best part is they are always ready to have fun and making the most fun of this session was effortless for them! Landon came along to complete the trio for the family portion of their session and to also ensure we never had a dull moment! Have I mentioned yet that I just love working with this family?
Here are just a few of my favorites from their sunny Saturday session!
Of course...I couldn't finish the blog without showing the "out-takes" from the session! Did I mention this sweet family loves a good laugh?
Some of you may remember this gorgeous maternity session I posted last year...
Ashley was a stunning momma-to-be and made a this chilly November session look absolutely gorgeous! This beautiful mom and I were due only a week apart and our babies were born only two days apart!
Well, fast forward three months and here we are doing her family pictures AND her engagement pictures! I absolutely loved working with this sweet family of four as they showed off their sweet newest addition!
The weather was mostly overcast and the sun refused to make an appearance for us. Luckily, it turned out we didn't even need the sun. This family made their own sunshine!
It's such an honor to work with families as they grow and help them capture such precious moments. Here are just a few of my favorites from their session...
Are you familiar with Northern Neck Popcorn Bag? Maybe you have seen their page on Facebook or maybe you have heard your friends talking about it but I am telling you, if you haven't been then you need to stop what you're doing and go. RIGHT NOW.
I had the pleasure of visiting a couple of weeks ago and believe me when I tell you that you won't want to miss out! I never really considered myself a big popcorn person. Honestly, I could take it or leave it. That is, until I found Northern Neck Popcorn Bag. I now consider myself a full on popcorn addict!
When you walk in, you are greeted with flavors upon flavors and even more flavors lining the store walls (over FIFTY flavors actually!). They have sweet flavors (salted caramel, cheesecake, and s'mores just to name a few!) as well as savory flavors (hello garlic parmesan, white cheddar and even a Rivah mix!). Don't forget their specialty and holiday flavors! I was lucky enough to sample their Valentines special ("Love at First") and was first to try their newest flavor...ready for it...bacon BBQ!!
I brought home some more flavors to photograph and I spent the drive home eating popcorn by the fist full! After getting home, my husband quickly started helping himself to the goodies I had brought home and we both agreed it was a hit! His favorite flavor? Loaded baked potato!
When you walk in you're greeted with smiles and a friendly staff.... and of course, the free samples never hurt!
I am so excited to finally announce...

On October 15th I had the pure pleasure of shooting a very special wedding...
First off, can we start with the fact that their names are Erin and Aaron? I mean, seriously, how cute is that??
I first met this sweet couple earlier in the year when we met for coffee to discuss wedding details. I can honestly say that I instantly fell in love with them! They are truly two of the kindest people I have ever met and their love for each other is so wonderfully obvious!
What do you get when you mix hints of navy (Erin's favorite color!) with pure sunshine on the water? A fairytale wedding! I was honored they chose me to capture their special day. Here are just a few of my favorite images!!!
If you follow me on social media then you have definitely heard of Tuesday's Together! In case you haven't...
Tuesday's Together is a group that is lead by The Rising Tide Society. It meets once a month and allows for creative entrepreneurs and small business owners to meet together and grow in the spirit of community over competition! When we meet, we discuss a range of topics all the way from from social media to client experience. We share ideas, encourage each other and fill our conversations with positivity and support.
I am so excited to lead our local group in the Northern Neck of Virginia! During our August meeting we decided we wanted to do something a little different for our next meeting...a mini styled shoot!
Thanks to everyone's help it came together beautifully! We found a gorgeous momma-to-be (again!) to model for us. Hair and makeup was done by the fabulous Sharon Buchner and one of my favorite local produce stands, Garners Produce, donated some stunning flowers for the shoot!
The most amazing thing about photography? We all had the same stunning styled session to photograph and all of our images are completely different! It was such a great opportunity to showcase our personal styles while sharing our favorite tips and tricks with each other! We had such a great time!
I just LOVED working along side such a wonderful group of people and I had to share a few favorite images of mine from the shoot!
Are you a local creative or small business owner and interested in joining our group? Head on over to our Facebook page; we would love to have you!

Did you happen to catch Sarah Thrift Photography's latest pregnancy announcement? Being a mom myself, I have a special place in my heart for capturing joyous moments for other families including announcements, birth photography and newborns! This time was a little bit different. Just in case you missed it...WE'RE expecting! That's right...baby number three will be making their debut this winter!
I wanted to do something a little different for our personal announcement. Having two other children (2.5 years and younger!) doesn't exactly allow much time for romantic announcements in a field full of flowers at sunset. I wanted to capture the humor of what it's really like to be expecting your third child in less than three years.
My friend and mentor Dawn of Picture this by Dawn was up for the challenge and was kind enough to capture this image for us. We shared this announcement yesterday for Father's Day (seemed like an appropriate day to make this announcement).
If anyone is trying to do the math, our oldest will turn three one month before our due date. "Three under three?!?!" you might say in horror..."That's crazy!" Well, you're right. It is CRAZY...and we love every second of it!!! I always knew from the start that I wanted all of our kids close in age. After watching the bond grow between my first two (who are sixteen months apart), I knew we had made the right decision for us. The two are inseparable and are truly best friends. We decided to add one more to the crazy bunch so it was now or never! I can't wait to see the relationship develop as they add another best friend into their club and we finally have our own version of "The Three Musketeers."
One thing I've learned so far with the third pregnancy...apparently you start showing instantly. With my first, I wasn't even wearing maternity clothes until I was seven months pregnant. With the second, I was completely in maternity clothes by ten weeks. This time? I was basically in maternity pants the day I found out I was pregnant. At this point, I believe my abdominal muscles have just given up. They know the deal by now and they are already in position and prepared, haha!
We are so excited to be adding to our circus! It's a crazy circus but a crazy circus full of love!
Here's one more announcement by Dawn if you need a laugh today:
I don't exactly know why but headshots are one of my favorite things to photograph. Maybe because it is one of the few times you get to focus completely on your client. The background isn't as important, you don't have to worry about positioning a couple or posing a family. It is one shot that allows you to focus a hundred percent on your client and nothing else. It is even so much better when the headshots are for a client who loves what they do!
Meet Heather: not only does she happen to be one of my besties but she also happens to be a fellow photographer. She is the owner of Heather Woolard Photography (you can find her website here). Put her behind her camera and it is obvious that photography is what she loves. All of the reasons why I could not wait to do her headshots!
We had been talking about doing her headshots on and off for awhile but with a total of five kids and two photography businesses between us, we were having a hard time getting our schedules to coordinate. Heather and I made a recent trip to Fredericksburg to visit a Tuesdays Together meeting (a styled shoot!) by Hope Taylor and Natalie Jayne Moore. As we headed back to the car, we walked the streets of downtown Fredericksburg and thought, "Now seems like just as good of a time as any to grab a few headshots!" So that's what we did! Here are just a few of my favorites from Heather's session...isn't she gorgeous?!?
One of my biggest lessons I have learned over the years? It's OK to let your friends go!Read More
I will start by saying that I hardly ever photograph weddings! That being said, when a friend contacted me about photographing her private back yard wedding there was no way I could say no! This was the most perfectly intimate wedding filled with just the right amount of simply gorgeous decor and surrounded by pure love.
The wedding took place in their own back yard with immediate family only. It was very cloudy with storms threatening to crash the party but they held off allowing for the ceremony to go off without a hitch!
Here are just a few of my favorites from their big day. A HUGE congratulations to Nancy and Raymond and big THANK YOU for allowing me to be a part of your special day!
It's no secret that I typically don't do portrait photography anymore. It's also no secret that I'm kind of obsessed with babies. Like, 'have baby fever all the time and want to smell all the babies' kind of obsessed. So when a dear friend of mine happens to have TWINS how could I possibly say no?!?
This was most definitely NOT an easy pregnancy. This poor momma was in and out of the hospital and on bedrest almost the entire pregnancy. Delivering the babies a little too early was a very possible reality BUT these babies stayed where they were supposed to until the time was right! At 35 weeks and 6 days they were delivered without complications with no need for the NICU; AMAZING!
Not just any twins, but two healthy full size baby BOYS. These precious little boys were welcomed home by their big brother, and what a proud big brother he is!
At 11 days new I had the opportunity to get all of this sweetness in front of the camera. Here are a few of my favorites from their session!
If you have been following the blog then you already know that my "baby" turned one this past weekend (check out last weeks post to see his cake smash)! You would also know that his first birthday party had to be rescheduled for the following weekend because he came down with the stomach bug; what a rotten way to spend your first birthday! Despite the fact that I am still in denial and refuse to believe my baby is growing up so fast, we still celebrated with a birthday bash!
I had to come up with the perfect theme to fit his personality. What's the perfect theme for such a dapper little boy who has turned into a little man?
"A Mustache Bash!"
Unfortunately, many of his baby friends were not able to attend due to the unexpected change in date. That's okay, there were still plenty of people there to smother those fat cheeks with birthday kisses!
Now for the details! First, this adorable birthday invitation. This was purchased from Design Bug Studio on Etsy. This 'chalkboard little man mustache invitation' was just what I was looking for to set the theme for invited guests.
Of course we had to have a birthday cake. I decided to keep the cake simple. I went with my go-to vanilla cake topped with a creamy vanilla buttercream frosting . I kept the cake 'naked' to avoid taking away from this adorable cake topper. This "little man" cake topper was found at Mod Party at, you guessed it, Etsy! I may have a slight obsession with Etsy, but can you blame me??
The favors: I decided to stick to what I know and bake cupcakes. Each guest received a homemade vanilla cupcake with almond buttercream and topped with a little mustache. I placed a cupcake (individually wrapped in personal cupcake boxes) in a party bag and filled it with color coordinating candy and a mustache pencil just for fun. Then I put a mustache sticker on the front...oh so cute!
Even though the planning and preparing leading up to the party make me unbearably stressed out, I just love planning their parties and seeing it all come together to watch their happy faces. It is so worth it in the end!
It always feels so good to be surrounded by friends and family and even better for such a happy occasion! We had family travel from out of state as well as friends who we haven't seen in over five years come to celebrate this little mans first birthday!
What a happy day filled with love!!
